   What is your favorite type of music, artist(s), and why?
   
   I think that hip hop music is the most popular music there is, but thats because its my favorite. I wanted to see what others were and if I was wrong.

   Having a favorite genre/type of music and then comparing it to what's popular are different. For me hip hop is more influential to younger people. Per the style of the music, the style of the artists etc... My favorite type of music would have to be rock music. I just find it more of my style. I listen to all kinds of music especially from the 80's best era for music--my opinion.

   Mine is visual kei. It's like rock...but its own style. As for favorite artists I'd have to say Gackt, Buck-Tick, and the Gazette are my top three. They are all highly creative and their music has a fantastic sound. I enjoy it over American rock. We simply don't have anything that sounds like viskei!

   Blues. Eric Clapton once spoke about the oddity of a White middle-class English kid loving American Blues music - I've always felt that same sense of peculiarity, I don't know why this music should reach me so deeply when so many of my peers don't seem to 'get' it. I grew-up in the 60s, just toward the end of the first generation of Rock & Roll, when Motown ruled the radio, until the British invasion changed everything. So the first music I loved was Dion & The Belmonts, Sam Cooke, The Four Tops, The Animals, Cream, etc.
   
   But, I could hear something, way down inside, that was the same kind of thing in all these artists. Eventually I discovered the Blues - none of these artists would sound as they do if it were not for the Blues . . . popular music would be totally different without the Blues - everything we listen to today comes from Blues music. And here's the thing; when you go all the way back and listen to Blind Willie McTell and Son House and Elmore James and Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker and Buddy Guy, etc, etc, you discover the heart of all popular music . . . then, when you come back and listen to Tony Bennett, Elvis, Jackie Wilson, Al Green, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Jett, The Sugarhill Gang, Christina Aguilera, Roc Marciano, or whatever, it sounds better than ever.
   
   It's a shame that so many who love and promote Rap or Hip Hop or Rock & Roll or whatever have no appreciation of where it all comes from - you can't properly appreciate and favor and enjoy any kind of popular music if you don't know the Blues. Just listen to this one recording and listen to where everything comes from ~

   I personally prefer classic rock, hard rock and (don't tell anyone) hair metal, but I believe worldwide, country is still the best selling music of all genres. I know it used to be.

   80's music definitely. I think American music was best from the 60's to the 80's, peaking in the 80's. Oh, you cannot discount the jazz of the early 20th century...phenomenal. But with the 90's I feel it has all gone downhill. Some of what we witnessed in our early history, we will never see the likes of again.

   My tastes in music are all over the map and depend upon my mood.
   
   Any music which evokes feelings that are uplifting is my kind of tune.
   
   I like a little hip-hop, but not much. I like funk, soul, R&B, country and western (but only a few songs), jazz, classical, classic rock, hard rock, some heavy metal, movie theme music, and some folk (particularly Peruvian folk by Markahuasi).
   
   I don't really care what sells the most. I care what my soul hungers for.
